Processing Past Trauma > Emotional Pain – Seek Professional Guidance: Many of us can be stuck in a reactive mind loop, struggling to deal with difficult life experiences, processing trauma and emotional pain from our past, experiencing sickness and long term ill health. Please seek professional guidance to doing your inner work, going through the deeper healing.
Reactive Amygdala > Trauma > Hippocampus: Along with experiencing our reactive amygdala part of the brain, switching off becoming left brain dominant, the hippocampus works to remember and make sense of traumatic experiences, and responsible for memory and differentiating between the past and present. With consistent exposure to trauma the hippocampus shrinks. Like many parts of the brain’s limbic system, the hippocampus is involved in memory, learning, and emotion. Its largest job is to hold short-term memories and transfer them to long-term storage in our brains. It also plays a role in emotional processing, including anxiety and avoidance behaviors. Like old files on our internal hard drive, trauma needs to be processed and healed.
You can protect your brain and make your hippocampus stronger by: Managing any underlying health conditions, eating healthy balanced meals, getting regular physical activity, managing stress, getting good sleep and learning new things.
Medication – Prescription drugs – Addiction & Long Term Ill Health: Becoming more aware of the education and the belief system we experience growing up, along with all the designer labels such as ADD – Attention Deficit Disorder, ADHD – Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, OCD – Obsessive Compulsion Disorder and more. In a world where movement is medicine and experiencing past trauma and excessive stress, the inability to manage the past, experiencing anxiety about the uncertainty of the future, can lead many of us down the long road of addiction to medication and prescription drugs, negatively impacting our physical, emotional, mental wellbeing and long term health.
